Take this as the rumor it is for now, but DC is said to be very interested in Lady Gaga for one of the lead roles in Birds of Prey. SuperBroMovies, which has nabbed a few legitimate DC film scoops in the past, reports that DC offered Gaga more money for one of the lead roles — either Black Canary or Huntress — after she had previously decided to pass.

Gaga may sound like a case of DC trying to stunt cast Birds of Prey, but it is important to remember that Gaga isn’t quite the acting novice that some have made her out to be. The pop singer-turned-actress won a Golden Globe for her work in American Horror Story: Hotel and appeared in three episodes of AHS: Roanoke. She had a brief role in Machete Kills and, more significantly, is earning stellar reviews for her lead role in A Star Is Born, which opened at the Venice Film Festival earlier today.

Cathy Yan is directing the film, which is confirmed to feature Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as well as a host of other DC female superheroes and supervillains. Robbie has confirmed that the film will be R-rated and will have a “much smaller budget,” with production set to begin in January.
