Disney+ Cancels Willow Series After One Season

The adventures of Willow are over for now, as Disney+ has canceled the legacy series after one season. Deadline reports that the series, which was a continuation of Ron Howard’s 1988 fantasy action-adventure, will not be continuing.

The series ran eight episodes and starred Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel, Tony Revolori, and Warwick Davis. The cancellation comes as companies are tightening their belts on streaming spending and as Disney in particular has been noting that it is focusing less on quantity of content. The series didn’t make the hoped-for splash in terms of commercial buzz, though it was well-received by critics and those fans who did watch it.

The report notes that Willow remains a valuable IP for Disney and that it could be revisited down the line in some form.
