Disney Confirms Main Cast for The Mandalorian Including Werner Herzog

Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm finally confirmed early casting reports and rumors for the upcoming live-action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian. Former Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal (Narcos) is set to star in the show int he title role of the still unnamed Mandalorian gunfighter.

Joining Pascal are Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator, Rocky), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) and Nick Nolte (Affliction). Previously unknown new casting additions include Swallow and Herzog.

The show will be set in the outer reaches of the galaxy with Pascal as a Mandalorian gunfighter. The roles and names of the characters are still a mystery to fans. Additionally, Disney and Lucasfilm have been generally mum on the story details.

The Mandalorian is one of two Star Wars-themed shows that’s in the works for Disney’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The other Star Wars TV series for the service is going to star Diego Luna, reprising his role as Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Executive producer Jon Favreau said on the casting news, “We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to.”

The series will be exclusive to the new Disney+ streaming service and is set to launch in the U.S. in late 2019. Disney+ marks the company’s first direct-to-consumer streaming service.
