Now that Wanda Maximoff has claimed the mantle of the Scarlet Witch, expect her accent to return (at least a bit) in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen spoke with Rolling Stone for a piece discussing WandaVision and weighed in on how Wanda’s accent has been fading over her appearances since her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron. She noted that Wanda will be letting her natural accent out more now that she feels more in touch with herself. You can check a couple of highlights below:

On the accent being toned successively down: “So that started with Civil War. The Russos said, ‘Can she just have a softer accent, because she’s been in America, and has to have been speaking English more.’ So I was like, sure. I do have to say that in Dr. Strange [in the Multiverse of Madness], after the experience she has in WandaVision, she goes back to an accent that’s more true to her.”

On feeling more confident about the character after WandaVision: “Now that I feel a little bit more ownership of the character, I feel like she does retreat back to having this more honest expression. The sitcom part was totally different, because she’s trying to hold on to an American sitcom world and play the part the best she can.”

Olsen will reprise the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to release on March 25th, 2022.
