Famke Janssen Says She Hasn’t Been Asked To Reprise Jean Grey In MCU

Famke Janssen originated the role of Jean Grey in live-action in X-Men, but she says she hasn’t been asked by Marvel to reprise the character. Janssen played the role of the original X-Men team member in 2000’s X-Men as well as X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. While a number of the Fox X-Men stars are returning for Avengers: Doomsday, Janssen told EW she’s not set to appear in the film.

Janssen returned to the role for a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past. She previously said she’d be open to returning. You can see highlights of her latest comments below:

On If She’s Been Asked To Return:

“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realise that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed…. Never. Never ever [spoken to Disney about it].”

On People Associating Her With the Character:

“I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people. It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her. I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like [is it] Doomsday? It’ll come up again.”

Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) are among those set to return for Doomsday. The Russo Brothers-directed film releases on December 18th, 2026.
