Fantastic Four Director Points Out That Not Every Superhero Film is a Hit
Fantastic Four director Josh Trank had a quippy and self-deprecating response to a fellow film director that claimed superhero movies don’t fail. Joseph Khan (Bodied, Torque) posted to Twitter on Sunday following Captain Marvel’s massive success to make the bold claim, only to be responded to by Trank with a simple reply: “Hold my beer.”
Fantastic Four was one of the most recent failures at the box office for a superhero adaptation, bringing in just $56.1 million domestically and $168 million worldwide against a $120 million budget plus marketing. The film was estimated to have lost between $80 million and $100 million for the studio amidst a wave of negative reviews and poor fan reaction.
It isn’t all bad for the FF though. Though nothing is confirmed, Marvel is expected to give the First Family another try when they complete their acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
Hold my beer.
