A Diver Gets Swallowed Whole by a Sperm Whale in First Teaser Trailer for Whalefall

20th Century Studios revealed the thriller first look at the new movie, Whalefall, where the lead character (Austin Abrams), portrays a diver who is swallowed whole by a sperm whale. You can check out the new teaser trailer below. The movie hits theaters later this year.

Whalefall follows the story of a young man, Jay Gardiner (Abrams), who goes diving off the central coast of California in search of his father’s remains following his recent death. However, during his dive, he’s unwittingly swallowed by a massive sperm whale.

Now trapped inside the sperm whale’s guts with only an hour of oxygen left, Jay must realize the hard-earned lessons hiss father imparted in him might be his key to escape.

The feature is directed by Brian Duffield and features a screenplay by Brian Duffield & Daniel Kraus, based on Kraus’ book of the same name. It stars Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd. It’s produced by Brian Grazer, Brian Duffield, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum, with Doug Merrifield, Richard Abate, Will Rowbotham serving as executive producers.

20th Century Studios previously debuted an extended look at the sequence depicted in the teaser where Gardiner gets swallowed by the sperm whale at CinemaCon 2026.
