Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has been hit with backlash after she posted a comment on the ongoing Israel-Palestine violence. Gadot posted the following on Twitter on Wednesday.

“My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people. This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation. Our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days.”

As benign as that statement sounds to most, some took offense with Gadot using the term “neighbors” and for showing any support of Israel. Gadot was born in Israel and spent two years as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, something that is mandatory for all Israeli citizens over the age of 18.

The backlash led to Gadot disabling comments on her post on both Twitter and Instagram (though the post remains up). Gadot also had Texas Senator Ted Cruz come to her defense. He retweeted her statement with the caption, “God bless Gal Gadot.”

According to the Associated Press, seven people have died in Israel from rocket fire, while dozens of Palestinians, including 16 children, have died.
