Bad news for X-Men fans, as reports that Walt Disney Pictures have pushed the New Mutants back from it’s August 2nd, 2019 release date to April 3rd, 2020. In addition, they have entirely removed the planned Gambit film from the schedule, seemingly finally confirming its cancellation.

New Mutants has had a difficult post-production life. Reshoots were planned for the film but not completed, and there was a time when the belief was the film would get released on Hulu instead of theatrically. Whether the reshoots will now be completed or if the scheduling is for other reasons is not yet known.

Gambit’s production was a long-suffering process after it’s initial announcement in early 2014, as they shifted from director to director, with the likes of Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman and Gore Verbinski having stays on the project. Gambit‘s actor Channing Tatum, a long time supporter of the film’s creation, was even making it known that he wanted to direct it himself if it would make it happen.
