Deadline reports that the Arrow spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries will no longer be moving forward at the CW. The spinoff started as a backdoor pilot during the final season of Arrow in January of last year.

The option on the cast expired last year (along with a prequel series for The 100, which also isn’t moving forward), but in May CW President Mark Pedowitz said there were still talks.

He said at the time: “They are very much in active discussions to see what we can do. I’ve had many discussions with Warner Bros, we have a strategy involved — hopefully we can pull it off.

There had been talks of both shows running on The CW and streaming on HBO Max at the same time, but it is unlikely for the Arrow spinoff. The series would have starred Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy. It was set in 2040 Star City, where Mia Queen (McNamara) teams up with Laurel (Cassidy) and Dinah (Harkavy) to stop evil. Tara Miele directed the original series episode, from a script by showrunner Beth Schwartz & co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim, executive producer Jill Blankenship and co-executive producer Oscar Balderrama. It would have been produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.
