HBO has put a fourth season of True Detective in development, according to a new report. THR reports that Issa Lopez (Tigers Are Not Afraid) is set to write the new season of the anthology crime drama, with Barry Jenkins (The Underground Railroad) set to produce.

The new season will be subtitled “Night Country” and while it is not officially greenlit yet, should it move forward Lopez will direct the pilot and executive produce the season. No word on the potential new season’s story as of yet. It would be the first season for the show to not involve creator Nic Pizzolatto, though season one stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are set to return in their capacity as executive producers.

The season will be the first for the show since the third season aired in January and February of 2019. True Detective became an essential water cooler show when it premiered in January of 2014, though it lost steam after the second season was poorly received and went on hiatus. Season three was viewed as a return to form for the series, though it garnered less than half the audience of the first two seasons.
