Deadline reports that Sony Pictures and Mattel Films have slated the planned film adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe for a March 5, 2021 release date. Noah Centineo is currently attached for the starring role of He-Man for the live-action film.

This is not the first release date set by Sony for the project. It was previously set for a December 2019 release. Not to mention, the film has been passed around multiple studios, writers and directors over the past 10+ years or so.

The film is based on the 1980s action figure line of the same name that later spawned an iconic animated cartoon by Filmation. The story follows young Prince Adam, who is granted fabulous secret powers with a magic sword that transforms him into the hero known as He-Man. As He-Man, he defends Castle Grayskull and his home planet of Eternia from the evil Skeletor and his minions.

Adam and Aaron Nee are slated to direct the film, which they are reportedly co-writing alongside Avengers: Endgame writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

The March 5, 2021 release date puts the film opposite the animated 20th Century Fox film, Nimona and a currently untitled Universal event film.
