Hulu Acquires David Bruckner’s Hellraiser Reimagining

Hulu is set to play around with the Lament Configuration, as they’ve acquired the rights to the upcoming Hellraiser reimagining. Bloody Disgusting reports that the streaming platform has picked up the rights to the film, which David Bruckner (The Ritual, V/H/S) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

Hellraiser has been a popular property for development as of late. In addition to Bruckner’s film, which is bring produced through Spyglass Media, HBO Max is developing a television series with David Gordon Green directing and Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat) writing along with Mark Verheiden. Barker is executive producing the television series, and while he will the rights to the original film in December of this year there is no word on how involved he may be in Bruckner’s movie.

Barker wrote and directed the first Hellraiser based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart. Released in 1987. the film introduced audiences to the demonic Cenobites, led by Pinhead and summoned by a puzzle box that opens a gateway to hell. Ashley Laurence, Clare Higgins, Doug Bradley, and Andrew Robinson starred in the film, which became a cult hit and spawned an entire franchise (the back half of which has gone straight to video).
