James Gunn Says He Hears Fans About Legends Of Tomorrow & Suicide Squad’s Ayer Cut
James Gunn is one of the new heads of DC Studios, and he’s heard fan demands to save Legends of Tomorrow and release the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad. As reported late last month, Gunn and Peter Safran were named the new co-heads of a reorganized DC Studios that will oversee all movie, TV and animation projects based out of the comics’ properties, with Gunn overseeing creative and Safran overseeing business and production. Gunn is known for being very interactive with fans on Twitter and as such he’s seen the fan campaigns to save the cancelled Legends on The CW as well as to release director David Ayers’ original cut of Suicide Squad.
Gunn took to his Twitter account and noted that he’s been seeing the outpouring of fan support for the campaigns. He noted that while his new job duties precludes him from spending as much time on the platform as he used to, he and Safran are listening and “open to anything.”
Gunn wrote:
“Opened up Twitter at the end of a long, creative weekend to see the many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow & #ReleaseTheAyerCut & fan support for other DC projects over the years. The majority of these requests were enthusiastic & respectful. As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter & I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.
Although our ability to interact on Twitter has been lessened due to the workload of our new positions, we are listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey, & will continue to do so for the next few years. But all our initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects.
We invite all of the DC fandoms from across the multiverse — and everyone else as well — into this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.”
