Jason Blum Says James Wan Will Be Very Involved In Saw Franchise Going Forward

Blumhouse now has rights to the Saw franchise, and Jason Blum says that James Wan will be quite involved with the future of the franchise. As reported back in June, Blumhouse bought Twisted Pictures’ share in the horror franchise. That puts the Jigsaw series back in reach of Wan, who directed the first film, as Wan’s Atomic Monsters merged with Blumhouse in 2024.

Blum spoke with Variety for a new interview, in which he noted that Wan and fellow co-creator Leigh Whannell will be involved in the franchise plans going forward. You can see highlights below:

On acquiring the franchise from Twisted Pictures: “It’s really hard to make 10 movies in a franchise — I don’t take that away from the original series’ producers. And I’m grateful to them for allowing us to continue.”

On having Wan involved going forward: “My creative outlook is what I always preach: Get the people who made the magic in the first place more involved. James Wan [the original director] will be hugely involved. That’s how we’re going to reinvent it.”

There is no confirmed plans at this point for the franchise, which last saw life with Saw X in 2023.
