J.J. Abrams Producing Subversive Superhero Film The Heavy for Paramount

Variety reports that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot banner will produce the new superhero movie, The Heavy for director Julius Avery and Paramount Pictures. The upcoming project was written by Daniel Casey (The Passage).

Details on the project are currently under wrapped. The film is reportedly going to be a subversive take on the superhero genre. Paramount hopes to start production later this year.

Abrams and Avery previously collaborated with Paramount for Overlord, a WWII zombie movie, that opens on October 26. Avery’s feature debut was Son of a Gun. Abrams will next direct Star Wars: Episode IX, which is currently in pre-production.
