Deadline reports that Community veteran Joel McHale (Animal Control) has been cast in the upcoming sequel, Scream 7, in a key role. McHale is portraying the role of Mark Evans, the offscreen husband of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), who was first referenced in 2022’s Scream (aka Scream 5). It looks like Sidney did not marry Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) from Scream 3 as everyone suspected, but another man who is also named Mark.

McHale is reportedly in production at the moment for the upcoming sequel in Atlanta, Georgia. He joins the cast opposite the returning Campbell, Courtneney Cox, and Mason Gooding, who reprise their roles as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Chad Meeks-Martin. Other newcomers to the cast include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp. Further character details for the new cast members are being kept under wraps, but May is reportedly portraying Prescott’s daughter.

Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first four installments of the franchise, directs the franchise for the first time with Scream 7. He’ll be directing from a script by Guy Busick, who co-wrote the last entry. Scream 6 marked the highest domestic box office gross for the franchise to date with $108 million.

McHale’s current series, Animal Control, recently returned for its third season on FOX earlier this year. He also recently portrayed the abusive former boss of Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy, Chef David, on the acclaimed, award-winning FX series, The Bear. He will also be appearing in a guest role on the third season of Yellowjackets, debuting February 14. Additionally, he reprises his beloved role as Jeff Winger from Community in Community: The Movie, which is due out later on.

Scream 7 is due to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
