Jon Bernthal Returning to The Walking Dead For Season Nine Episode

Shane will be back — for an episode, at least — on The Walking Dead. Jon Bernthal will return to the show for an episode in the new season according to TV Line. It will mark the Punisher star’s first appearance on the AMC show since season three, when he appeared as a figment of Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) imagination.

Shane was a major part of the first two seasons, dying at the end of season two at Rick’s hands when he went too far off the reservation (and then put down by Carl after rising as a zombie). The news comes after reports last month that Lincoln is leaving the show during the upcoming season. The circumstances of Shane’s return — hallucination, flashbacks or whatever — have yet to be revealed.

AMC declined to comment on the story.
