Kingdom Hearts Anime Series Announced at D23

The iconic Kingdom Hearts video game series is getting its first-ever adaptation. During Friday’s Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan event, The Walt Disney Company announced the new Kingdom Hearts anime series.

The upcoming project will be an original anime series based on the beloved video game franchise. It’s currently in the works for Disney Channel and Disney+. The series is being developed in partnership with the franchise’s creator, Tetsuya Nomura.

The new anime series will reimagine the adventures of the games with a brand-new story that expands upon the universe of Kingdom Hearts while also celebrating the characters who have captured the hearts and imaginations of millions of fans around the world.

The anime is being produced by Disney Kids & Family in collaboration with Square Enix. The new show doesn’t have a release date yet, and Disney is only listing it as “Coming Soon.” However, the video game franchise will continue with its next mainline installment, KINGDOM HEARTS IV, in 2027. The new game debuts on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC in late 2027.

KINGDOM HEARTS IV is now available to wishlist. Disney also released some promotional artwork for the upcoming anime series, which you can check out below:
