The Legend Of Zelda Live-Action Film In the Works At Sony

Sony Pictures is set to bring The Legend Of Zelda to the big screen, with a live-action adaptation on the way. Deadline reports that Sony Pictures and Nintendo are co-financing the live-action film, which will be directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes).
The new film will be written by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World). Ball is directing as well as producing alongside Joe Hartwick Jr. under their Oddball Entertainment shingle.
The Legend of Zelda is one of the most iconic Nintendo franchises. First launched in 1986, it has led to 19 sequels and several spin-offs. Set in the fantasy world of Hyrule, it centers on an elfish warrior named Link who battles the evil Ganon alongside (and sometimes by rescuing) the Princess Zelda.
Nintendo has one of the biggest films of2023 with their animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed $1.36 billion worldwide. Nintendo will finance over 50% of the Zelda film, with Sony releasing it theatrically worldwide.
The news comes as another video game adaptation Five Nights At Freddy’s, spent the last two weeks atop the box office and has become a big hit in its own right.
