Lin-Manuel Miranda ‘Announces’ The Room Broadway Production as April Fool’s Joke

April 1, 2018 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda got in on the April Fool’s Day fun this year, “announcing” a Broadway adaptation of The Room. Yes, THAT The Room. Miranda posted an announcement on Twitter, retweeting an “exclusive announcement” from TheaterMania and saying, “This is all VERY premature. We’ll try it out of town in San Francisco.” You can see the post below, along with a follow-up that makes it clear for those who didn’t realize which day it was that it was an April Fool’s Day joke.

The Room is Tommy Wiseau’s infamously bad film, which itself was the focus of last year’s James Franco-directed The Disaster Artist. The Room is one of the rare films qualified in “so bad it’s good” status by many, and is considered to be one of the worst feature films ever made.

The “announcement” included a gag song list and casting. The latter included Patti LuPone in the role of Claudette; Miranda and Javier Munoz as Peter/Steven, a psychologist; and Mark Rylance for the role of Johnny.
