Lin-Manuel Miranda will direct his first film with an adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s musical Tick, Tick…Boom!. The Wrap reports that the film will be produced by Imagine Entertainment, with the script written by Steven Levenson.

Tick, Tick… Boom! was written by Larson and premiered Off Off-Broadway in September of 1990, before he became known for Rent. The musical is autobiographical in nature and tells the story of an aspiring composer named Jon, who lives in New York City in 1990 and worries that he has made the wrong career choice.

“Jonathan Larson’s captivating storytelling in Rent first taught me that musicals could be contemporary, true to life, and depict your own experiences. But it was Tick, Tick…Boom! that solidified that drive in me to hone my own voice as a playwright,” Miranda said in a statement.
