Lucasfilm is reportedly delving into Star Wars’ past for a film that would be set during the Knights of the Old Republic era. According to Buzzfeed, multiple sources have revealed that Laeta Kalogridis (Alita: Battle Angel) is writing a script for a KOTOR film for the studio, with plans to develop the story into a trilogy. The first script is said to be nearly finished.

The Knights of the Old Republic game is set 4,000 years before the events of the original films, and was released in 2003. The games tell the story of the Jedi Order battling the Sith Lord Darth Malek. Kathleen Kennedy told MTV News in April that they were “developing something to look at” regarding KOTOR.

The next Star Wars series following December’s The Rise of Skywalker will be a trilogy from Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The first of those films is currently set to release in December of 2022, so we won’t be seeing any KOTOR-related film for a while.
