Pedro Pascal has moved from Game of Thrones to Star Was with The Mandalorian, and sees similarities between the two franchises. Pascal, who is starring in the upcoming Disney+ live-action Star Wars series, spoke with EW and discussed what he sees as fair comparisons between the two.

“I see enormous parallels between the world of Star Wars and the world of Game of Thrones,” said Pascal, who memorably played Oberyn Martell in Thrones. “Game of Thrones might not exist if not for Star Wars, in the way that this world-building genre [took] science fiction to a new level in the way that Game of Thrones takes fantasy to a new level. And the way that it represents such concrete realities that we live in, although the irony being that it’s science fiction and fantasy.”

Pascal plays the titular role in The Mandalorian, becoming the latest actor to jump from Westeros to a galaxy far, far away after Gwendoline Christie (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi) and Emilia Clarke (Solo: A Star Wars Story). The series premieres at Disney+’s launch on November 12th.
