Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost says it’s unlikely that will get more of the show without David Lynch. Lynch passed away in January and Frost, who co-created the iconic show with Lynch, told Empire Magazine (per IndieWire) that he has trouble imagining a continuation without Lynch.
“We had talked a little bit about where a fourth season might go,” Frost told the outlet. “But with David having left us, it’s hard to imagine doing anything beyond this. It certainly feels like it closed the circle.”
IndieWire also points out that Frost told NME last month that “We had a little bit of a recipe forming [in regard to a fourth season]; nothing terribly formal, but it was in the wind. I felt there were uncertainties about his health, so I didn’t press him on it, but nothing really stopped the flow of his creativity.”
Twin Peaks ran for two seasons in 1990 and 1991 and became an instant pop culture touchstone for the era. After ABC cancelled the series, it made its way to film with 1992’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me which provided some answers left unresolved by the series. The show then lay dormant until Showtime release Twin Peaks: The Return which for 18 episodes in 2017.
The show is currently streaming in its entirety on MUBI and Paramount+.
