Variety recently chatted with MCU star Mark Ruffalo, who portrays Bruce Banner and The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo is also attached as a producer for the upcoming HBO limited series, I Know This Much Is True, which debuts on May 10. During the discussion, he talked about his potential future in the role for later films.

Regarding what’s next for Banner/Hulk, Ruffalo stated, “There’s nothing completely at a place where it’s a done deal. There’s some talk of having Banner/Hulk show up in [the Disney Plus series] ‘She–Hulk.’ If we come up with something good, that would be really interesting. Right now that’s about it. That’s all there is on the table.”

Mark Ruffalo continued that it would be interesting to explore more of Banner’s life in-between what happened in the other movies. He added, “There’s an idea that I think could be really interesting. We’ve never really followed him into his life. He’s always kind of off on the side. He’s like the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the Avengers. It’d be interesting to fill in all the blanks about what happened to him in between all these movies.”

With Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios now controls the film rights again for the X-Men franchise. With that in mind, Ruffalo also supports the idea of Hulk and Wolverine meeting up in a future cinematic installment. He said on the subject, “Maybe Hulk and Wolverine could hook up.”

A potential cinematic Hulk and Wolverine crossover makes sense, considering the Wolverine character made his debut in the pages of The Incredible Hulk Issue No. 180 in October 1974. Wolverine later joined the X-Men the following year and became a mainstay of that group, eventually becoming one of Marvel Comics’ most popular heroes.
