The Hollywood Reporter has some casting news for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it looks like Jon Bernthal won’t be the only character reprising his MCU role for the series. THR reports that Mark Ruffalo i set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk, in the upcoming sequel.

Ruffalo’s return had been rumored for a while, but the script recently came together as production for the film gears up later this month in England. Additionally, Michael Mando is reportedly set to finally reprise his role as Mac Gargan, better known as his superhero alter-ego, The Scorpion. Mando previously appeared as the character in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he’s never had the chance to become The Scorpion, until now, it seems. This would suggest that Mando finally gets to become The Scorpion in the new film.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it looks to be a high-concept plot that involves Spider-Man meeting The Hulk and The Punisher on the big screen. The Punisher actually made his first appearance in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man Issue #129 in February 1974. The film will mark The Punisher making his cinematic MCU debut after appearing in Daredevil Netflix series, his own self-titled Netflix show, and Daredevil: Born Again, which debuted earlier this year on Disney+

Ruffalo and Mando join the cast opposite Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Jon Berthal as The Punisher/Frank Castle. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the new film from a script by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sony Pictures also debuted a new video revealing Tom Holland in his new suit for the movie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, featuring Mark Ruffalo once again as The Hulk, swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
