Marvel Zombies will rise from the grave a week early. Marvel Studios has announced that the TV-MA animated series is set to arrive on September 24th. That is just over a week ahead of its original October 3rd premiere date.

All four episodes of the series, which is set in the world first seen on screen in What If…? season one, will release on that day. Showrunner Bryan Andrews told Collider that the series was originally conceived as a film but they decided to break it up into the series instead.

“We were thinking it’d be a movie, if like, ‘Ooh, we should release it as a movie.’ We should just do a movie,” Andrews said. “But there were some things that came up, certain issues that we just had to kind of, ‘Oh let’s break it. We’ll have to break it up into four episodes.’ So basically it’s like a four-episode mini-event, like a film broke up into four parts, basically. It’s one story. It’s one throughline. A lot of insanity happens.”

Andrews also confirmed that the show’s TV-MA rating is mostly for gore, though he added there is “a tiny bit of language” contributing to the rating.

The series features the voices of Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Hailee Steinfeld, Dominique Thorne, Iman Vellani and Hudson Thames reprising their MCU roles.
