Marvel has put a temporary pause on their Blade movie after the director dropped out a couple of weeks ago. THR reports that the studio is hitting the pause button on its schedule for the film, which was set to go into preproduction next month. The news comes after Bassam Tariq exited the film in late September and while the assumption was that a new director would be brought in quickly, the studio has decided to slow down in order to find the right person. One source noted to the trade that “They want to really get it right.”

The film is set to star Mahershala Ali as the titular character and was most recently written by Beau DeMayo, one of a few writers to work on the script. It was noted that the studio is also taken the pause as a chance to further develop the film some, with plans to re4start the production in early 2023. Crew members were notified of the pause on Tuesday.

The film was set to release on November 3rd, 2023, but Marvel has pushed that date out to September 6th, 2024.
