Marvel Taps Writer & Director For Thunderbolts Film

Marvel Studios is moving ahead a with a “top-secret” Thunderbolts film, with a director and writer signed for the villains team-up movie. Deadline reports that Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) is set to direct the upcoming movie, which will be written by Eric Pearson (Black Widow).

Plot details on the film are being kept quiet thus far, but is expected that the film will be based on the “general story” of the Thunderbolts from the comics. The was a team of supervillains who appeared to have turned a new leaf. While the original Thunderbolts was a scheme from Baron Zemo under a secret identity to carry off a villainous plan, the group did eventually actually reform and became heroes.

Marvel has been teasing the idea of potential characters in the MCU under Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who could fit such a team, specifically U.S. Agent and Yelena Belova. Characters in the MCU who have been part of the Thunderbolts in the comics include Baron Zemo and Taskmaster.

The outlet notes that Marvel has been in contact with some people who play characters in the MCU, asking them to keep an opening in their schedules for next summer when the film is scheduled to shoot.
