Marvin Jones III is joining the MCU, as he’s set to play Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Deadline reports that the actor has been cast as the ruthless crime boss in the upcoming film, which is the fourth in the Marvel & Sony Spider-Man franchise.

The film briefly paused production this week after Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion during filming, but is expected to return in a few days. Neither Marvel and Sony have commented on the new casting news.

Tombstone is a recurring enemy of Spider-Man in the comic books, having first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36 in March 198. Created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk, Tombstone is the nickname of Lonnie Lincoln, an African-American albino man who rose to the top of organized crime. He’s known for his superhuman strength, filed-down teeth and extreme resilience and durability. He has previously appeared in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the latter of which saw Jones voice the character.

Jones has previous live-action superhero experience as well, having played Tobias Whale in Black Lightning on The CW. He joins a cast that includes Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the film, which will release on July 31st, 2026.
