Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Batman, replacing Ben Affleck and appearing in The Flash among other DC films. THR reports that Keaton, who starred as Batman in the Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman as well as 1992’s Batman Returns, is in discussions to take on the role that Affleck played in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

The report continues that if the deal is made, Keaton would potentially return for other DC film projects with the vision being that the role would be similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the MCU where he is a mentor or puller of strings. Among the films in development that could be play out in such a way would be Batgirl.

If he does sign on, Keaton would join Ezra Miller, who is reprising his role as Barry Allen that he first played in Justice League. Andy Muschietti (It) is set to direct the film.

Keaton was famously one of the first actors to dramatically change people’s minds in regard to a superhero casting. When he was initially cast to play Batman, the response was absolutely derisive due to his resume being filled with comedic roles such as Mr. Mom. After the movie released, audiences quickly changed their minds about the casting and it became a massive hit and he reprised the role in Batman Returns.

The Flash is looking to start production in London in spring of 2021.
