Mike Flanagan’s new take on the Exorcist franchise has a release date. As reported last month, Flanagan has been tapped to write and direct an “all-new story set in The Exorcist universe” now that the original plans that kicked off with The Exorcist Believer have been scuttled. THR reports that Universal has announced a March 13th, 2026 release date for the new film.

While plot details on the new film have yet to be revealed, it is described as a new story that is not connected to any previous Exorcist film and “charts a new course for the film franchise.” Flanagan’s longtime producer Trevor Macy is on board to produce for Intrepid Pictures alongside Flanagan via his Red Room Pictures and Jason Blum for Blumhouse.

Flanagan previously said in a statement, “The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.”
