Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

Netflix is jumping in the deep end of interactive series following the success of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Netflix VP of product Todd Yellin spoke at FICCI-Frames convention in India (per Variety) and said that the film’s hit status has led the service to explore more series that viewers can have a direct impact on.

Yellin said of Bandersnatch, “It’s a huge hit here in India, it’s a huge hit around the world, and we realized, wow, interactive storytelling is something we want to bet more on. We’re doubling down on that. So expect over the next year or two to see more interactive storytelling. And it won’t necessarily be science fiction, or it won’t necessarily be dark. It could be a wacky comedy. It could be a romance, where the audience gets to choose – should she go out with him or him.”

Bandersnatch was an immediate hit for Netflix after it premiered in December. The “Choose Your Own Adventure”-type film had five hours of footage and a huge amount of potential endings based on what viewers choice. Fionn Whitehead starred alongside Will Poulter in the film, which was directed by David Slade.
