WARNING: There is a major spoiler here from the new Scream movie.

Neve Campbell has shared her thoughts on one of the big kills from the new Scream movie, saying she isn’t sure whether it was the right call. In the new film, one of the Original Three meet their demise when Dewey (David Arquette) is murdered by Ghostface in a hospital while there to protect others. Speaking with Variety, she noted that the death was one that hit her hard.

“I was devastated,” Campbell said. “I still have trouble wrapping my head around it. I still question whether it was the right choice, because from what I’m hearing, there are a lot of fans who are really upset.”

Capbell added that Courtney Cox suggested an option Wes Craven used of filming Dewey’s scene both ways so that he would have the option if he wanted to keep Dewey alive, noting, ” Courteney had tried to tell the directors to shoot it both ways to give themselves the option because Wes would do that sometimes when there were certain characters that were so beloved.”

Dewey’s death was the biggest character death in the franchise since arguably Randy’s in Scream 2 and is fairly definitive as seen in the film. The movie has been a financial success to date, with $84.9 million worldwide thus far as of this weekend.
