The long-delayed reshoots for the even longer-delayed New Mutants will finally happen this year. Producer Simon Kinberg told Digital Spy that reshoots for the film, which were originally scheduled for last year, are set to take place before the year’s end.

“What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney,” Kinberg said when asked about the film’s status. “That’s really it. Part of it was figuring out what the re-shoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.”

Kinberg added that scheduling was a big reason for the reshoot delays, noting that his cast’s involvement in TV shows was part of the problem. Stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Alice Braga (Queen of the South) and more have been busy over the past year with television productions.

“For all of these movies, Marvel’s really brilliant at scheduling pick-ups into their budget and schedule so it’s all prepared, and we have never been that smart,” he said. “For us, we’re always scrambling to get these actors back together so they’re all in the same place at the same time.”

He added, “It would seem simple on The New Mutants because they maybe not as big movie stars as the main X-Men movies, but all of them are on TV shows, so we’ve got to wait until they get off their shows and they can all be in the same place at the same time.”

The X-Men film is now set for a April 3rd, 2020 release date, the most recent release date for a film that has been pushed ahead several times on the schedule.
