Disney has added a newcomer to their live-action Mulan adaptation in a key role. Deadline reports that Yoson An will play Chen Honghui, a military recruit and the love interest of Liu Yifei’s titular character.

Chen is referred to as “a confident and ambitious recruit who joins Commander Tung’s unit. He becomes Mulan’s most important ally and eventual love interest.” The character is said to be different than Li Shang, the character in the animated film who served as Mulan’s love interest.

Niki Caro is directing the film, which also stars Jet Li, Gong Li, Ron Yuan, and Donnie Yen. It is based on Disney’s 1998 animated film, itself based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. The film follows the rise of Mulan during the Han Dynasty when the daughter of a legendary warrior impersonates a man to fight against a Hun invasion.

Disney has set a March 27th, 2020 release date for the film.
