Deadline.com reports that UK pop star Paloma Faith has signed on to portray the villain role of Bet Sykes for the new DC Entertainment show, Pennyworth. Sykes is a cruel individual who seeks to test the courage of a young Alfred Pennyworth in his days before he became the butler of Bruce Wayne aka Batman.

Faith’s character is described as a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain.” The show is being produced by Warner Horizon Scripted TV for Epix. Faith’s previous credits include Peter & Wendy and Doctor Parnassus. This will be her first major role for a US audience.

The show will star Jack Bannon in the role of eponymous butler. It’s slated to start production on Monday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England. The show is being produced by Bruno Heller and executive producer/director Danny Cannon.

It will feature 10 one-hour episodes chronicling the origins of Alfred Pennyworth and his connection to the Wayne Family. The story will be set in 1960s London after Pennyworth recently finished his service as a British SAS soldier.
