Paramount is bringing the fan favorite graphic novel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin to the big screen with an R-rated approach. Deadline reports that the studio is developing a film adaptation of the graphic novel, with Tyler Burton Smith writing and Walter Hamada producing.

The film will be the first R-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and adapts the miniseries from Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, which ran from 2020 through 2022. It is set in a future dystopian New York City where the grandson of Splinter assasinates the Turtles and Splinter, with one surviving and swearing revenge. The graphic novel shows the events that lead up to the current situation in flashback and features appearances from April O’Neal, Baxter Stockman and more.

No release date has been announced for the film as of yet. The most recent film, the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, grossed $180.5 million worldwide against a $70 million budget.
