Production Begins on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2

Sony is officially heading back into the Spider-Man animated territory, kicking off production on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. Animator Nick Kondo posted to Twitter on Tuesday to note that he’s begun his first day on the anticipated sequel to the 2018 animated hit. You can see his post, which includes a small teaser video, below.

The film will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and is set to release on October 7th, 2022. The original film was a hit with $375 million worldwide against a $90 million budget, winning the Oscar for Best Animated Film as well as the Annie Award and Golden Globe award that year.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, though Shameik Moore is expected to return (along with others) for the movie’s voice cast. Moore played Miles Morales in the original.
