Richard Herd, Mr. Wilhelm From Seinfeld, Passes Away
Richard Herd Mr. Wilhelm
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Richard Herd, best known for playing New York Yankees executive Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld, has passed away at the age of 87 from cancer-related causes. He passed away at his home in Los Angeles.
Herd appeared on 11 episodes of Seinfeld, serving as a supervisor for George Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) when George worked for the Yankees as the assistant to the traveling secretary. The storyline saw many memorable moments involving Herd’s Wilhelm, Jason Alexander’s Costanza, and Larry David as Yankees boss George Steinbrenner.
Herd also appeared in shows like T.J. Hooker and Star Trek and movies like All The President’s Men and The China Syndrome.
Interestingly enough, Herd was one of the first patients to receive the newly introduced drug, penicillin, which helped him recover from osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection.
We’d like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Richard Herd.
