The first trailer for Rob Zombie’s The Munsters has finally arrived, and the preview looks to capture the cheesy TV feel, look and sound of the original series. Universal Pictures released the full trailer for the upcoming film on Wednesday, and you can check it out below.

The trailer answers the big question fans have had about the movie for a while in terms of where Eddie and Marilyn Munster are — they don’t exist yet. The film, written and directed by Zombie, is a prequel that tells the origin of Lily (Shari Moon Zombie) and Herman’s (Jeff Daniel Phillips) relationship… one that Grandpa (Daniel Roebuck) wants to break up. The trailer looks as if it is intent on capturing a retro look and style, outside of being colorized. Zombie told EW last month when the teaser released that he agreed to color because he knew it wouldn’t be made otherwise.

“I knew that if I went in and demanded ‘This movie’s going to be in black and white or forget it!’ we would not be talking about The Munsters right now, because it would have never happened,” he said. “I guaran-f**king-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real. I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting.”

The PG-rated film, which will be released this September through Universal 1440 Entertainment, also stars Jorge Garcia, Richard Brake, Catherine Schell, Sylvester McCoy, and Cassandra Petersen (aka Elvira).
