Sam Raimi Says There are Ideas in the Works For More Evil Dead Films

Like the Deadites that populate it, the Evil Dead franchise isn’t easy to kill off. And Sam Raimi says that there are ideas in play for a new film. Raimi spoke with Bloody-Disgusting and confirmed that there are plans being discussed for more films in the horror universe he established with Bruce Campbell and Rop Tapert. Highlights are below:

On the future of the film franchise: “I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce, Rob and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie. We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”

On Bruce Campbell having said he was retired from the character: “I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”

On Alvarez’s remake being set in the same universe as the original films: “I think that’s a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline.”

On having a third possibility in case Campbell and Alvarez both don’t want to come back: “But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about. So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.”
