Scarlett Johansson Eyeing Role in The Batman Sequel Opposite Robert Pattinson

It looks like a Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran is nearing a key role in The Batman sequel for filmmaker Matt Reeves, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson is in “final negotiations” to join The Batman 2 opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

The long-gestating sequel is currently in the works and aiming to start production later next year. Johansson would join the cast of the Batman sequel after filming the next installment of The Exorcist franchise first.

Of course, Johansson is best known for her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, in the MCU. Last portraying the character in her own solo movie released in 2021.

Scarlett Johansson has recently found success starring in another sequel of an established franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, which hit theaters earlier this year. The film was a box office smash, grossing, $339.6 million domestically and $868.9 million worldwide. Johansson is also currently attached to star in a new Exorcist movie from writer-director Mike Flanagan from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.

The Batman 2 has undergone various delays after being first announced by Warner Bros. Pictures at CinemaCon 2022 in April of that year. Since then, it’s been pushed back multiple times, and it’s currently slated for an October 1, 2027 release date.

Reeves will return to direct the feature from a script he’s co-writing with Mattson Tomlin. The first film in the franchise was a success, grossing $770.3 million worldwide.

The movie also spawned a successful television spin-off, The Penguin, which debuted last year, featuring Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, from the movie.

The first movie also starred Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Barry Keoghan as an inmate at Arkham Asylum believed to be The Joker.
