A recent report that Sam Raimi will direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has the previous director, Scott Derrickson, very optimistic. As previously reported, Raimi is in talks to helm the MCU sequel, taking over from Derrickson who exited in January over creative differences. Derrickson took to Twitter to comment on the news.

Posting to his social media account, Derrickson said:

Bruce Campbell, who has worked extensively with Raimi through the years, also posted to his Twitter to comment on the Doctor Strange news:

Marvel has yet to officially announce Raimi as taking over the film, but assuming the deal doesn’t fall through he is expected to start filming in May so the film hits its May 7th, 2021 release date. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong will reprise their roles from the first film as Strange, Mordo, and Wong. Elizabeth Olsen will also appear as Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch.
