Sebastian Stan is close to signing onto a new superhero film, with the MCU actor circling a role in The Batman Part II. THR reports that Stan, best known for his role as Bucky in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is in talks for a role in the DC Studios sequel.
DC Studios did not comment on the news, and it’s not yet clear what role Stan would be playing. He would join his fellow Marvel star Scarlett Johansson in the film alongside the returning Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Matt Reeves is back to direct the new film, which he co-wrote with Matton Tomlin. As previously reported the film is set to start filming this spring for an October 1st, 2027 release date.
The Batman was a bright spot for DC Studios amid the sputtering end that was the final DCEU films. Set outside of larger DC continuity, The Batman grossed $772 million worldwide. It also spawned a successful TV spin-off in The Penguin, which aired on HBO and HBO Max. Plot details on the new film have been kept under wraps.
Stan has been able to successfully alternate his blockbuster work in the MCU with independent fare, appearing in smaller films like A Different Man and The Apprentice in 2024. His latest film, Cristian Mungiu’s drama Fjord, is currently in post-production.
