The Six Billion Dollar Man Needs A New Director
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that director Damian Szifron has departed the film version of The Six Billion Dollar Man citing creative differences. The film is set to star Mark Wahlberg as Col. Steve Austin, a pilot who is shot down and saved by an operation that makes him a cyborg. It’s based on the 1970s TV show of the same name. The film was set to begin shooting this summer, so the studio will find a new director soon to stay on schedule.
Mel Gibson is a possible choice, as he was already in talks to play Austin’s government mentor Oscar Goldman. Szifron joined the project three years ago when it was still in development at the Weinstein Company. Warner Bros. acquired the rights for $7.2 million after TWC began having legal problems due to the allegations against Harvey Weinstein.
