KPop Demon Hunters is the surprise hit of 2025, and Sony Pictures is reportedly in talks with the directors for a follow-up. Puck News reports that the studio is in discussions with Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans about a follow-up to the film, which has become a huge hit for the studio and Netflix.
In just eight weeks, KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s second most-watched film of all-time with 184.6 million views (based on 307.6 million total hours viewed). The film became a sleeper hit, releasing with just one trailer a month before its release and then staying at #1 or #2 on the weekly charts for every week since it debuted. The soundtrack has also been a massive hit and broken records set by KPop giants like BTS and BLACKPINK.
The report notes that Sony can produce any spinoff or sequel and Netflix has no obligations to take up the sequel, though it’s very likely they would want it. Sony could potentially shop the film elsewhere or even go for a theatrical release.
The film, which centers on a KPop group named Huntrix that secretly protect the world (and their fans) from demons, has reportedly earned Sony $20 million. It is set to release in theaters in a sing-along version on August 23rd and 24th. The report notes that over 300 screenings have already sold out.
No word on when a potential follow-up would eventually release.
