South Park - Unfulfilled

South Park has hit a new high for renewals, with an order given to keep the show on-air through 2027 along with movies in a reported $900 million deal. MTV Entertainment Studios announced on Thursday that the iconic Comedy Central series has been renewed for seven seasons in a deal signed with Matt Stone & Trey Parker that will include 14 original South Park movies to air on Paramount+.

“Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years,” Parker and Stone said in a statement. “When we came to ViacomCBS with a different way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar), and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new that turned out to be really well received. We can’t wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes but now we can also try out new formats. It’s great to have partners who will always take a chance with us.”

Bloomberg News reports that the deal Parker & Stone signed with ViacomCBS is for over $900 million. It is the latest massive Hollywood deal that indicates the industry’s growing push of streaming services; just yesterday it was reported that Apple acquired Henry Cavill spy thriller Argylle for $200 million while Netflix picked up the rights for two Knives Out sequels for $400 million.
