New Line is relaunching the Final Destination franchise on HBO Max, with Spider-Man helmer Jon Watts on board to produce. THR reports that Watts, who directed all three Tom Holland Spider-Man entries, is producing and wrote the treatment and story for the new installment of the famed horror franchise.

The site reports that the film is simply titled Final Destination 6. Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not) are writing the screenplay based on Watts’ script.

The Final Destination franchise has historically been a lucrative one for New Line, with each entry focusing on a character who avoids a catastrophic death after having a premonition about it, and saving several others as well. Death then seeks to come after the survivors one at a time, using Rube Goldberg-ian methods to bring about the deaths.

The first film was a big hit for the studio and grossed $112.9 million against a $23 million budget. The one recurring character has been William Bludworth, played by Tony Todd, who is a funeral director with an unusual amount of knowledge regarding the nature of Death.

Also producing the new film, which will head to HBO Max, are franchise producer Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Watts’ wife and manager Dianne McGunigle.
